When the people saw what Paul did, they shouted in their own Lycaonian language. They said, “The gods have become like men! They have come down to us!”
When Paul and Barnabas learned about this, they left that city. They went to Lystra and Derbe, cities in Lycaonia, and to the areas around those cities.
The people thought that Paul would swell up or fall down dead. The people waited and watched Paul for a long time, but nothing bad happened to him. So the people changed their opinion of Paul. They said, “He is a god!”
All the people—the least important and the most important—believed the things Simon said. The people said, “This man has the power of God that is called ‘the Great Power’!”
