Acts 13:36

David did God’s will during the time he lived. Then he died and was buried like all his ancestors. And his body did rot in the grave!

You will work hard for your food, until your face is covered with sweat. You will work hard until the day you die. And then you will become dust again. I used dust to make you. And when you die you will become dust again.”

“When your life is finished, you will die and be buried with your ancestors. But then I will make one of your own children become the king.

Then David died. He was buried in the City of David.

In the past, you led us in war. You led us even though Saul was the king. The Lord said to you ‘David, you will be the shepherd of my people, the people of Israel. You will become the leader over my people.’”

When you die, and you join your ancestors, {\cf2\super [195]} then I will let your own son be the new king. The new king will be one of your sons. And I will make his kingdom strong.

David was king over all of Israel. He did what was right and fair for everyone.

David died when he was old. David had lived a good, long life. David had many riches and honors. And David’s son Solomon became the new king after him.

Rehoboam rested with his ancestors. {\cf2\super [169]} Rehoboam was buried in David’s city. Then Rehoboam’s son Abijah became the new king.

Then Jehoshaphat died and was buried with his ancestors. {\cf2\super [240]} He was buried in David’s City. Jehoram was the new king in Jehoshaphat’s place. Jehoram was Jehoshaphat’s son.

Uzziah died and was buried near his ancestors. {\cf2\super [308]} Uzziah was buried in the field near the king’s burial places. Why? Because the people said, “Uzziah has leprosy. {\cf2\super [309]} ” And Jotham became the new king in Uzziah’s place. Jotham was Uzziah’s son.

Then Solomon rested with his ancestors. {\cf2\super [160]} The people buried him in the City of David his father. Solomon’s son Rehoboam became the new king in Solomon’s place.

I might say to the grave,\par ‘You are my father,’\par and to the worms,\par ‘My mother,’ or ‘My sister.’\par

In the end, both of those people\par will lie together in the dirt.\par The worms will cover them both.\par

Those people are just like sheep.\par The grave will be their pen.\par Death will be their shepherd.\par Then on that morning\par the good people will be the winners\par as the bodies of those \{proud\} people\par slowly rot in the grave,\par far away from their fancy houses.\par

No person will ever get enough money\par to buy the right to live forever,\par and to save his own body\par from rotting in the grave.\par

The servant that got five bags of money went quickly to invest the money. Those five bags of money earned five more.

Jesus said, “Move the stone away.”

After God took Saul away, God made David {\cf2\super [261]} their king. This is what God said about David: ‘David, the son of Jesse, is a man who is like me in his thinking. He will do all the things I want him to do.’

“My brothers, I can tell you truly about David, {\cf2\super [32]} our ancestor. He died and was buried. His grave is still here with us today.

I can say this because I know that I told you everything that God wants you to know.

Saul agreed that the killing of Stephen was a good thing.

And those people in Christ who have already died are lost.

After that, Christ showed himself to more than 500 of the brothers and sisters at the same time. Most of these people are still living today. But some have died.

Brothers and sisters, we want you to know about those people who have died. We don’t want you to be sad like other people—people who have no hope.
