All the people in all the family groups of Israel began to argue. They said, “King David saved us from the Philistines and our other enemies. David ran away from Absalom.
But Joab and Abishai [14] continued chasing Abner. The sun was just going down when they came to Ammah Hill. (Ammah Hill is in front of Giah on the way to Gibeon Desert.)
The Philistines heard that the Israelites had anointed [30] David to be the king of Israel. So the Philistines went to look for David {to kill him}. But David heard about this and went into the fort {at Jerusalem}.
Moab will be the bowl\par for washing my feet.\par Edom will be the slave\par who carries my sandals.\par I \{will defeat\} the Philistine people\par and shout about the victory!”\par
All those people had great faith. And with that faith they defeated kingdoms. They did the things that are right, and they got the things that God promised. With their faith some people closed the mouths of lions.
Some people stopped great fires, and other people were saved from being killed with swords. They did those things because they had faith. Weak people were made strong because of their faith. They became powerful in battle and defeated other armies.
