King David said to Nathan the prophet, “Look, I am living in a fancy house made of cedar wood, but God’s Holy Box [49] is still kept in a tent! {We should build a nice building for the Holy Box.}”
Uriah said to David, “The Holy Box [64] and the soldiers of Israel and Judah are staying in tents. My lord Joab, and my lord’s (King David’s) officers are camping out in the field. So it is not right for me to go home to drink, and sleep with my wife.”
David put up a tent for the Holy Box. [47] The Israelites put the Lord’s Holy Box in its place under the tent. Then David offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the Lord.
But several men did not agree with what Adonijah was doing. These men remained loyal to David. They were Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and King David’s special guard. [1] So these men did not join with Adonijah.
Hiram was king of the city of Tyre. Hiram sent messengers to David. Hiram also sent logs from cedar trees, stonecutters, {\cf2\super [147]} and carpenters {\cf2\super [148]} to David. Hiram sent them to build a house for David.
The Levites brought the Box of the Agreement {\cf2\super [182]} and put it inside the tent David had set up for it. Then they offered burnt offerings and fellowship offerings to God.
The things that King David did, from beginning to end, are in the books written by Samuel the seer, {\cf2\super [330]} Nathan the prophet {\cf2\super [331]} , and Gad the seer.
David had carried God’s Box of the Agreement {\cf2\super [3]} from Kiriath Jearim to Jerusalem. David had made a place to put it in Jerusalem. David had set up a tent for God’s Box of the Agreement in Jerusalem.
King Hezekiah put the Levites in the Lord’s temple {\cf2\super [351]} with cymbals, {\cf2\super [352]} harps, and lyres {\cf2\super [353]} the way David, Gad the king’s seer, {\cf2\super [354]} and Nathan the prophet had commanded. This command came from the Lord through his prophets.
The other things Solomon did, from the beginning to the end, are written in the writings of Nathan the Prophet, in The Prophecy of Ahijah from Shiloh and in The Visions of Iddo the Seer. Iddo was a seer {\cf2\super [159]} who wrote about Jeroboam son of Nebat.
Then Moses put the Holy Box into the Holy Tent. [496] He hung the curtain in the right place to protect it. In this way, he protected the Box of the Agreement [497] {behind the curtain} like the Lord had commanded him.
“You people think the right time has come for you to live in nice houses. You live in houses with beautiful wooden panelling on the walls. But the Lord’s house is still in ruins!
