Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath Pileser, the king of Assyria. The message was: “I am your servant. I am like a son to you. Come and save me from the king of Aram and the king of Israel. They have come to fight me!”

The king of Israel answered, “King, my master. I agree that I belong to you now. And everything I have belongs to you.”

Tiglath Pileser king of Assyria came to fight against Israel. This was during the time that Pekah was king of Israel. Tiglath Pileser captured Ijon, Abel Bethmaacah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, Galilee, and all the area of Naphtali. Tiglath Pileser took the people from these places as prisoners to Assyria.

The Lord was with Hezekiah. Hezekiah was successful in everything he did.

The God of Israel made Pul want to go to war. Pul was the king of Assyria. He was also called Tiglath Pileser. He fought against the people from the family groups of Manasseh, Reuben, and Gad. He forced them to leave their homes and made them prisoners. Pul brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and near the Gozan River. Those family groups from Israel have lived in those places since that time until today.

Tiglath Pileser king of Assyria came and gave Ahaz trouble instead of helping him.

\{I say this to you\} because you have left your people. Your people have become filled with the wrong ideas of the people in the east. Your people try to tell the future like the Philistines. {\cf2\super [19]} Your people have completely accepted those strange ideas.

What will you say when the Lord asks you\par to account for that flock?\par You were supposed to teach the people\par \{about God\}.\par Your leaders were supposed to lead the people.\par \{But they did not do their job!\}\par So you will have much pain and troubles.\par You will be like a woman having\par a baby.\par

The Lord says these things:\par “Bad things will happen to people\par that trust only other people.\par Bad things will happen to people\par that depend on other people for strength.\par Why? Because those people have stopped\par trusting the Lord.\par

We have worn out our eyes\par looking for help.\par But no help comes.\par We kept on looking for a nation to save us.\par We kept watch from our watchtower,\par But no nation came to us.\par

Then you went to have sex with Assyria. {\cf2\super [124]} You could not get enough. You were never satisfied.

She wanted the Assyrian leaders and officers. She wanted those soldiers in blue uniforms riding their horses. They were all desirable young men.

“Then Oholah became unfaithful to me—she began to live like a prostitute {\cf2\super [182]} . She began to want her lovers. She saw the Assyrian soldiers

“Assyria will not save us.\par We will not ride on \{war\} horses.\par We will never again say, ‘Our God’\par to something we made with our hands.\par Why? Because you are the One who\par shows mercy to orphans. {\cf2\super [148]} ”\par

So Ephraim has become like a silly dove without understanding.\par The people called to Egypt for help.\par The people went to Assyria for help.\par
