Hilkiah said to Shaphan the secretary, “I found the Book of the Law in the Lord’s house {\cf2\super [428]} !” Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan.

Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the secretary, “Look, I found the Book of the Law [270] in the Lord’s temple! [271] ” Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and Shaphan read it.

The Levites brought out the money that was in the Lord’s temple. {\cf2\super [427]} At that time Hilkiah the priest found the Book of The Law of the Lord that was given through Moses.

Shaphan brought the book to King Josiah. Shaphan reported to the king, “Your servants are doing everything you told them to do.

The king went up to the Lord’s temple. {\cf2\super [437]} All the people from Judah, the people living in Jerusalem, the priests, the Levites, and all the people, both important and not important, were with Josiah. Josiah read to them all the words in the Book of the Agreement. {\cf2\super [438]} That book was found in the Lord’s temple.

After these things, {\cf2\super [43]} during the rule of Artaxerxes {\cf2\super [44]} king of Persia, Ezra came to Jerusalem from Babylon. Ezra was the son of Seraiah. Seraiah was the son of Azariah. Azariah was the son of Hilkiah.

So all the people of Israel met together in the seventh month {\cf2\super [42]} of the year. They were together and in agreement just as if they were one man. They all met together in the open place in front of the Water Gate. All those people asked Ezra the teacher to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses. That is the Law that the Lord had given to the people of Israel.

Herod called a meeting of all the leading Jewish priests and teachers of the law. Herod asked them where the Christ {\cf2\super [19]} would be born.

“And when the king begins to rule, he must write a copy of the law for himself in a book. He must make that copy from the books that the priests and Levites [111] keep.
