2 Chronicles 33:11

So the Lord brought commanders from the king of Assyria’s army to attack Judah. Those commanders captured Manasseh and made him their prisoner. They put hooks in him and brass chains on his hands and took him to the country of Babylon.

The Babylonians will take your sons. And your sons will become eunuchs [248] in the palace of the king of Babylon.”

All the things that Manasseh did, including the sins that he did, are written in the book The History of the Kings of Judah.

Our God, you are the great God,\par the awesome, powerful soldier!\par And you are kind and loyal!\par You keep your agreement!\par We have had many troubles.\par And our troubles are important to you!\par Bad things happened to all our people,\par and to our kings and leaders,\par and to our priests and prophets.\par Those terrible things have happened\par from the days of the king of Assyria\par until today!\par

The harvest is big in this land.\par But we sinned, so that harvest\par goes to the kings you put over us.\par Those kings control us and our cattle.\par They do anything they want.\par We are in a lot of trouble.\par

Kings might put people in prison,\par but God sets those people free\par and makes them powerful.\par

Assyria says to himself, ‘All of my leaders are like kings!

But even then you will not be able to defeat even one of my master’s lowest ranking officers! So why do you continue to depend on Egypt’s chariots {\cf2\super [339]} and horse soldiers!

The Lord shut me in, so I could not get out.\par He put heavy chains on me.\par

“The Lord will send you and your king away to a nation you don’t know. You and your ancestors [183] have never seen that nation. There you will serve false gods made of wood and stone.

The Israelites saw that they were in trouble. They felt trapped. They ran away to hide in caves and cracks in the rock. They hid among the rocks, in wells, and in other holes in the ground.
