2 Chronicles 3:1

Easy To Read Version

Solomon began building the Lord’s temple {\cf2\super [22]} at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah. Mount Moriah is the place where the Lord came to David, Solomon’s father. Solomon built the temple on the place that David had made ready. This place was at the threshing floor {\cf2\super [23]} that had belonged to Araunah {\cf2\super [24]} the Jebusite.

So Abraham gave that place a name, “YAHWEH YIREH.” [125] Even today people say, “On this mountain, the Lord can be seen.”

Then God said, “Take your son to the land of Moriah. At Moriah kill your son as a sacrifice [118] for me. This must be Isaac, your only son—the son you love. Use him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains there. I will tell you which mountain.”

The angel raised his arm over Jerusalem to destroy it. But the Lord felt very sorry about the bad things that had happened. The Lord said to the angel that destroyed the people, “That’s enough! Put down your arm.”The Lord’s angel was by the threshing floor [161] of Araunah [162] the Jebusite.

Then the angel of the Lord spoke to Gad. He said, “Tell David to build an altar {\cf2\super [216]} to worship the Lord. David must build that altar near the threshing floor {\cf2\super [217]} of Araunah the Jebusite. {\cf2\super [218]} ”

David said, “The temple {\cf2\super [231]} of the Lord God and the altar for burning offerings for the people of Israel will be built here.”

Johanan was Azariah’s father. (Azariah is the person that served as priest in the temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem.)

Solomon started the work in the second month of his fourth year as king of Israel.

But Solomon (David’s son) was the person who built the temple.
