2 Chronicles 29:10

So now I, Hezekiah, have decided to make an agreement with the Lord God of Israel. Then he will not be angry at us any more.

But the Lord did not stop being angry at the people of Judah. The Lord was still angry at them for all the things that Manasseh had done.

The king stood by the column and made an agreement with the Lord. He agreed to follow the Lord and to obey his commands, the Agreement, and his rules. He agreed to do this with all his heart and soul. He agreed to obey the Agreement written in this book. All the people stood to {show they supported} the {king’s} agreement.

Then Jehoiada made an agreement with all the people, and the king. They all agreed that they all would be the Lord’s people.

Don’t be stubborn like your ancestors {\cf2\super [364]} were. But obey the Lord with a willing heart. Come to the Most Holy Place. {\cf2\super [365]} The Lord has made the Most Holy Place to be holy forever. Serve the Lord your God. Then the Lord’s fearful anger will turn away from you.

Let our leaders decide for the whole group meeting here. Then let every person in our towns that married a foreign woman come here to Jerusalem at a planned time. Let them come here with the elders (leaders) and judges of their towns. Then God will stop being angry at us.”

Now let us make an agreement before our God to send away all those women and their children. We will do that to follow the advice of Ezra and the people who respect the laws of our God. We will obey God’s law.

Ezra praised the Lord, the great God. And all the people held up their hands and said, “Amen! Amen!” Then all the people bowed down and put their faces low to the ground and they worshiped the Lord.

Because of all of these things,\par we are making an agreement\par that can’t be changed.\par We are putting this agreement in writing.\par Our leaders, Levites, and priests\par are signing their names\par on this agreement\par

Jeremiah, look toward the north and speak this message:

You also said,\par ‘God will not always be angry at me.\par God’s anger will not continue forever.’\par

A short time ago, you changed your hearts to do what is right. Each of you gave freedom to his fellow Hebrews that were slaves. And you even made an agreement before me in the temple {\cf2\super [286]} that is called by my name.

I will hand over the men that broke my Agreement, and have not kept the promises they made before me. These men cut a calf into two pieces before me and walked between the two pieces. {\cf2\super [287]}

Those people will ask how to go to Zion. {\cf2\super [409]} \par They will start to go in that direction.\par The people will say,\par ‘Come, let us join ourselves to the Lord.\par Let’s make an agreement\par that will last forever.\par Let’s make an agreement\par that we will never forget.’\par

And they gave in a way that we did not expect: They gave themselves to the Lord and to us before \{they gave their money\}. This is what God wants.

After they burned Achan, they put many rocks over his body. Those rocks are still there today. {So God brought trouble to Achan.} That is why that place is called the Valley of Achor. [38] After this the Lord was not angry with the people.
