1 Kings 3:1

Solomon made an agreement with Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, by marrying his daughter. Solomon brought her to the City of David. [11] At this time, Solomon was still building his palace and the temple of the Lord. Solomon was also building a wall around Jerusalem.

But David did take the fort of Zion. This fort became the City of David. [24])

King Solomon loved women! He loved many women that were not from the nation of Israel. These included the daughter of Pharaoh, Hittite women and women from Moab, Ammon, Edom, and Sidon.

Then David died. He was buried in the City of David.

So Solomon began to build the temple. This was 480 years [30] after the people of Israel left Egypt. This was during Solomon’s fourth year as king of Israel. It was in the month of Ziv, the second month of the year.

King Solomon also built a palace [56] for himself. It took 13 years to finish building Solomon’s palace.

The house where Solomon lived was inside of the Hall of Judging. This house was built the same as the Hall of Judging. He also built the same kind of house for his wife, the daughter of the king of Egypt.

So Solomon finished building the Lord’s temple and his own palace. Solomon built all the things that he wanted to build.

It took 20 years for King Solomon to build the Lord’s temple and the king’s palace. [121]

Pharaoh’s daughter moved from the City of David to the big house that Solomon built for her. Then Solomon built the Millo. [125]

Then David made his home in the fortress. {\cf2\super [114]} That is why it is named the City of David. {\cf2\super [115]}

Jehoshaphat had much wealth and honor. He made an agreement with King Ahab through marriage. {\cf2\super [212]}

Solomon brought Pharaoh’s daughter up from the City of David to the house he built for her. Solomon said, “My wife must not live in King David’s house because the places where the Box of the Agreement {\cf2\super [136]} has been are holy places.”

This is the answer they gave us:

So we know that we must not break your commands. We must not marry those people. Those people do very bad things. God, if we continue to marry those bad people, we know you will destroy us! Then there would be no person from the people of Israel left alive.

The children of the third generation born to the Edomites and Egyptians may join with the men of Israel to worship the Lord.
