In the church (group of believers) at Antioch there were some prophets {\cf2\super [243]} and teachers. They were: Barnabas, Simeon (also called Niger), Lucius (from the city of Cyrene), Manaen (who had grown up with Herod, {\cf2\super [244]} the ruler) and Saul.

The Spirit gives to another person the power to do miracles, {\cf2\super [84]} to another person the ability to prophesy, {\cf2\super [85]} to another person the ability to know the difference between good and evil spirits. The Spirit gives one person the ability to speak in different kinds of languages, and to another person the ability to interpret those languages.

I may have the gift of prophecy {\cf2\super [93]} ; I may understand all the secret things \{of God\} and know everything; and I may have faith so great that I can move mountains. But even with all these things, if I don’t have love, then I am nothing.

But if there is no interpreter, then any person that speaks in a \{different\} language should be quiet in the church meeting. That person should speak only to himself and to God.

And if a message from God comes to another person that is sitting, then the first speaker should be quiet.

The spirits of prophets are under the control of the prophets themselves.

If any person thinks that he is a prophet {\cf2\super [104]} or that he has a spiritual gift, then that person should understand that what I am writing to you is the Lord’s command.

So my brothers and sisters, you should truly want to prophesy. {\cf2\super [105]} And don’t stop people from \{using the gift of\} speaking in \{different\} languages.
