These were Levi’s descendants. {\cf2\super [249]} They were listed by their families. They were the leaders of families. Each person’s name was listed. The people that were listed were 20 years old or older. They served in the Lord’s temple. {\cf2\super [250]}

Mushi’s sons were Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth. There were three sons in all.

David’s last instructions for the people of Israel was to count the descendants {\cf2\super [252]} from the family group of Levi. They counted the Levite men that were 20 years old and older.

David counted the Levites that were 30 years old and older. All together there were 38,000 Levites.

They counted Simeon’s family group. The names of all the men who were 20 years old or older and able to serve in the army were listed. They were listed with their families and family groups.

Then the Holy Tent [151] was taken down. And the men from the Gershon and the Merari families carried the Holy Tent. So the people from these families were next in line.

Then came the people from the Kohath family. They carried the holy things {from inside the Holy Place}. These people came at this time so that the other people could set up the Holy Tent [154] and make it ready {at the new camp} before these people arrived.

“You are responsible for caring for the holy place and the altar. [233] I don’t want to become angry with the people of Israel again.

So those were the people of Israel. They were counted by families. The total number of Israelite men in the camps, counted by groups, [25] is 603,550.

“Count all the families and family groups in Levi’s family group. Count every man or boy that is a month old or older.”

The Merari family groups were: Mahli and Mushi.

Using the official measure, [46] collect five shekels [47] of silver for each of the 273 people. (The shekel by the official measure weighs 20 gerahs. [48])Collect that silver from the people of Israel.

Count all the men who are from 30 to 50 years old that served in the army. These men will have the job of caring for the Meeting Tent. [69]
