O Lord, thy eyes are upon truth: thou hast struck them, and they have not grieved: thou hast bruised them, and they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than the rock and they have refused to return.
And they have turned their backs to me, and not their faces, when I taught them early in the morning and instructed them: and they would not hearken to receive instruction.
In vain have I struck your children: they have not received correction. Your sword hath devoured your prophets: your generation is like a ravaging lion.
And the Lord said: Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips glorify me, but their heart is far from me, and they have feared me with the commandment and doctrines of men:
But they provoked thee to wrath, and departed from thee, and threw thy law behind their backs. And they killed thy prophets, who admonished them earnestly to return to thee. And they were guilty of great blasphemies.
Thy uncleanness is execrable: because I desired to cleanse thee, and thou art not cleansed from thy filthiness. Neither shalt thou be cleansed, before I cause my indignation to rest in thee.
Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring upon Juda, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them, and they have not heard: I have called to them, and they have not answered me.
Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Go, and say to the men of Juda and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem: Will you not receive instruction, to obey my words, saith the Lord?
WOE to them that go down to Egypt for help, trusting in horses, and putting their confidence in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong: and have not trusted in the Holy One of Israel, and have not sought after the Lord.
The Syrians from the east, and the Philistines from the west: and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his indignation is not turned away: but his hand is stretched out still.
