Be not as your fathers, to whom the former prophets have cried, saying: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Turn ye from your evil ways, and from your wicked thoughts: but they did not give ear, neither did they hearken to me, saith the Lord.

Remember not our former iniquities: let thy mercies speedily prevent us, for we are become exceeding poor.

Say to them: As I live, saith the Lord God, I desire not the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way, and live. Turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways: and why will you die, O house of Israel?

And I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early, and sending and saying: Return ye every man from his wicked way and make your ways good, and follow not strange gods nor worship them: and you shall dwell in the land: which I gave you and your fathers. And you have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened to me.

And thou shalt say to them: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Turn ye to me, saith the Lord of hosts: and I will turn to you, saith the Lord of hosts.

Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things as gold or silver, from your vain conversation of the tradition of your fathers:

But to them first that are at Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and unto all the country of Judea, and to the Gentiles did I preach, that they should do penance, and turn to God, doing works worthy of penance.

Be penitent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.

Speak ye not, saying: It shall not drop upon these, confusion shall not take them.

But judgment shall be revealed as water, and justice as a mighty torrent.

Let Samaria perish, because she hath stirred up her God to bitterness: let them perish by the sword, let their little ones be dashed, and let the women with child be ripped up.

As for the word which thou hast spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken to thee:

To give ear to the words of my servants the prophets whom I sent to you, rising up early and sending, and you have not hearkened:

Now therefore tell the men of Juda and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying: Thus saith the Lord: Behold, I frame evil against you and devise a device against you. Let every man of you return from his evil way: and make ye your ways and your doings good.

Go, and proclaim these words toward the north. And thou shalt say: Return, O rebellious Israel, saith the Lord, and I will not turn away my face from you: for I am holy, saith the Lord, and I will not be angry for ever.

Return as you had deeply revolted, O children of Israel.

And thou didst forbear with them for many years, and didst testify against them by thy spirit, by the hand of thy prophets. And they heard not, and thou didst deliver them into the hand of the people of the lands.

But they provoked thee to wrath, and departed from thee, and threw thy law behind their backs. And they killed thy prophets, who admonished them earnestly to return to thee. And they were guilty of great blasphemies.

But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks, and hearkened not to thy commandments.

From the days of our fathers. And we ourselves also have sinned grievously unto this day: and for our iniquities we, and our kings, and our priests have been delivered into the hands of the kings of the lands, and to the sword, and to captivity, and to spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is at this day.

Go, and pray to the Lord for me, and for the remnant of Israel, and Juda, concerning all the words of this book, which is found. For the great wrath of the Lord hath fallen upon us, because our fathers have not kept the words of the Lord, to do all things that are written in this book.

Be not like your fathers, and brethren, who departed from the Lord the God of their fathers: and he hath given them up to destruction, as you see.

If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the Lord, return to me: if thou wilt take away thy stumbling-blocks out of my sight, thou shalt not be moved.

If they stood in my counsel and had made my words known to my people, I should have turned them from their evil way and from their wicked doings.

And I said to their children in the wilderness: Walk not in the statutes of your fathers and observe not their judgments, nor be ye defiled with their idols.

Then he that heareth the sound of the trumpet, whosoever he be, and doth not look to himself, if the sword come, and cut him off: his blood shall be upon his own head.

Are not these the words which the Lord spoke by the hand of the former prophets, when Jerusalem as yet was inhabited, and was wealthy, both itself and the cities round about it, and there were inhabitants towards the south, and in the plain?

And the posts went with letters by commandment of the king, and his princes, to all Israel and Juda, proclaiming according to the king's orders: Ye children of Israel, turn again to the Lord the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Israel. And he will return to the remnant of you that have escaped the hand of the king of the Assyrians.

Return, O ye revolting children, saith the Lord: for I am your husband: and I will take you, one of a city, and two of a kindred, and will bring you into Sion.

Therefore, thus saith the Lord of hosts: Because you have not heard my words:

Therefore say to the house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord God: Be converted and depart from your idols and turn away your faces from all your abominations.
