Rest thou this night: and when morning is come, if he will take thee by the right of kindred, all is well. But if he will not, I will undoubtedly take thee, as the Lord liveth. Sleep till the morning.

If thy brother being impoverished sell his little possession, and his kinsman will: he may redeem what he had sold.

But if he will not take his brother's wife, who by law belongeth to him, the woman shall go to the gate of the city, and call upon the ancients, and say: My husband's brother refuseth to raise up his brother's name in Israel: and will not take me to wife.

Juda, therefore add to Onan his son: Go in to thy brother's wife and marry her, that thou mayst raise seed to thy brother.

And they shall cause him to be sent for forthwith, and shall ask him. If he answer: I will not take her to wife:

The woman shall come to him before the ancients, and shall take off his shoe from his foot, and spit in his face, and say: So shall it be done to the man that will not build up his brother's house.

And Noemi answered her: Blessed be he of the Lord; because the same kindness which he shewed to the living, he hath kept also to the dead. And again she said: The man is our kinsman.

And he said to her: Who art thou? And she answered: I am Ruth thy handmaid. Spread thy coverlet over thy servant, for thou art a near kinsman.
