O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it: Why hast thou made me thus?

This thought of yours is perverse: as if the clay should think against the potter, and the work should say to the maker thereof: Thou madest me not. Or the thing framed should say to him that fashioned it: Thou understandest not.

And now, O Lord, thou art our father, and we are clay: and thou art our maker, and we all are the works of thy hands.

Dost thou strive against him, because he hath not answered thee to all words?

Gird up thy loins like a man. I will ask thee, and do thou tell me.

Or, is it not lawful for me to do what I will? is thy eye evil, because I am good?

Shall windy words have no end? Or is it any trouble to thee to speak?

Conflicts of men corrupted in mind, and who are destitute of the truth, supposing gain to be godliness.

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

Hide them in the dust together: and plunge their faces into the pit.

Who can search out his ways? Or who can say to him: Thou has wrought iniquity?

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Exhort servants to be obedient to their masters, in all things pleasing, not gainsaying:

WHEREFORE thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest. For wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself. For thou dost the same things which thou judgest.

I will shew thee, O man, what is good, and what the Lord requireth of thee: Verily, to do judgment, and to love mercy, and to walk solicitous with thy God.

Clothe thyself with beauty, and set thyself up on high: and be glorious, and put on goodly garments.

For how knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? Or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

And the king said: What have I to do with you, ye sons of Sarvia? Let him alone and let him curse: for the Lord hath bid him curse David. And who is he that shall dare say: why hath he done so?

For I shall not answer a man that is like myself: nor one that may be heard with me equally in judgment.

Shall the axe boast itself against him that cutteth with it? Or shall the saw exalt itself against him by whom it is drawn? As if a rod should lift itself up against him that lifteth it up, and a staff exalt itself, which is but wood.

Cannot I do with you, as this potterO house of Israel saith the Lord? Behold, as clay is in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.

But he said to him: Man, who hath appointed me judge, or divider, over you?

And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them who do such things, and dost the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

Or hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump, to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath, fitted for destruction,

Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? To his own lord he standeth or falleth. And he shall stand: for God is able to make him stand.

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and earth: and some indeed unto honour, but some unto dishonour.
