Alleluia. I have loved, because the Lord will hear the voice of my prayer.

Behold, I will bring upon you a nation from afar, O house of Israel, saith the Lord: a strong nation, an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou shalt not know, nor understand what they say.

The Lord will bring upon thee a nation from afar, and from the uttermost ends of the earth, like an eagle that flyeth swiftly, whose tongue thou canst not understand:

He struck the rock in the wilderness: and gave them to drink, as out of the great deep.

For with the speech of lips and with another tongue he will speak to this people.

You shall say to them: It is the victim of the passage of the Lord, when he passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, striking the Egyptians, and saving our houses. And the people bowing themselves, adored.

And I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and will kill every firstborn in the land of Egypt both man and beast: and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments. I am the Lord.

And he said: Thus saith the Lord: At midnight I will enter into Egypt.

That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best ointments: and they are not concerned for the affliction of Joseph.

And sanctify my sabbaths: that they may be a sign between me and you, and that you may know that I am the Lord your God.

Pour out thy wrath upon the nations that have not known thee: and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.

And these are the testimonies and ceremonies and judgments, which he spoke to the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt:

And it came to pass at midnight, the Lord slew every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharao, who sat on his throne, unto the firstborn of the captive woman that was in the prison, and all the firstborn of cattle.
