Lest strangers be filled with thy strength, and thy labours be in another man's house,

Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knew it not: yea, grey hairs also are spread about upon him, and he is ignorant of it.

Give not thy substance to women, and thy riches to destroy kings.

Nor will he yield to any man's prayers, nor will he accept for satisfaction ever so many gifts.

But as soon as this thy son is come, who hath devoured his substance with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

Give not thy honour to strangers, and thy years to the cruel.

And thou mourn it the last, when thou shalt have spent thy flesh and thy body, and say:

For the price of a harlot is scarce one loaf: but the woman catcheth the precious soul of a man.

A man that loveth wisdom, rejoiceth his father: but he that maintaineth bar lots, shall squander away his substance.
