Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend that you may know prudence.
Therefore ought we more diligently to observe the things which we have heard, lest perhaps we should let them slip.
Unjust witnesses rising up have asked me things I knew not.
My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
Incline thy ear, and hear the words of the wise: and apply thy heart to my doctrine:
My son, attend to my wisdom, and incline thy ear to my prudence.
Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayst be wise in thy latter end.
Say to wisdom: Thou art my sister: and call prudence thy friend,
To know wisdom, and instruction:
Therefore we have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all things that he commanded us: so as to drink no wine all our days, neither we, nor our wives, nor our sons, nor our daughters:
Gather yourselves together, and hear, O ye sons of Jacob: hearken to Israel your father.
A wise son heareth the doctrine of his father: but he that is a scorner, beareth not when he is reproved.
