Hear ye this, O priests, and hearken, O ye house of Israel, and give ear, O house of the king: for there is a judgment against you, because you have been a snare to them whom you should have watched over, and a net spread upon Thabor.

How long shall I take counsels in my soul, sorrow in my heart all the day?

Conduct me, O Lord, in thy justice: because of my enemies, direct my way in thy sight.

He promiseth a prey to his companions: and the eyes of his children shall fail.

For neither have we used, at any time, the speech of flattery, as you know; nor taken an occasion of covetousness, God is witness:

For they that are such, serve not Christ our Lord, but their own belly; and by pleasing speeches and good words, seduce the hearts of the innocent.

Mem. From above he hath sent fire into my bones and hath chastised me: he hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back: he hath made me desolate, wasted with sorrow all the day long.

A deceitful tongue loveth not truth: and a slippery mouth worketh ruin.

Meddle not with him that revealeth secrets, and walketh deceitfully, and openeth wide his lips.

She entangled him with many words, and drew him away with the flattery of her lips.

That she may keep thee from the woman that is not thine, and from the stranger who sweeteneth her words.

But a net is spread in vain before the eyes of them that have wings.

For they shall shortly wither away as grass, and as the green herbs shall quickly fall.

He that rebuketh a man, shall afterward find favour with him, more than he that by a flattering tongue deceiveth him.

And the servants of Saul spoke all these words in the ears of David. And David said: Doth it seem to you a small matter to be the king's son-in-law? But I am a poor man, and of small ability.
