If as a man I have hid my sin, and have concealed my iniquity in my bosom:

He shall look upon men, and shall say: I have sinned, and indeed I have offended, and I have not received what I have deserved.

But to them first that are at Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and unto all the country of Judea, and to the Gentiles did I preach, that they should do penance, and turn to God, doing works worthy of penance.

But I, as a fruitful olive tree in the house of God, have hoped in the mercy of God for ever, yea for ever and ever.

And the Lord said to Cain: Where is thy brother Abel? And he answered: I know not. Am I my brother's keeper?

Hatred stirreth up strifes: and charity covereth all sins.

And the children of Israel said to the Lord: We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever pleaseth thee: Only deliver us this time.

And he said: What did they see in thy house? Ezechias said: They saw all the things that are in my house; there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewn them.

If the heavens be shut up, and there fall no rain by reason of the sine of the people, and they shall pray to thee in this place, and confess to thy name, and be converted from their sins, when thou dost afflict them:

And Sechenias the son of Jehiel of the sons of Elam answered, and said to Esdras: We have sinned against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the land. And now if there be repentance in Israel concerning this,

Seeing then I have spoken of God, I will not hinder thee in thy turn.

Let the wicked forsake his way and the unjust man his thoughts, and let him return to the Lord; and he will have mercy on him: and to our God, for he is bountiful to forgive.

And God saw their works, that they were turned from their evil way: and God had mercy with regard to the evil which he had said that he would do to them, and he did it not.
