But I say to you, Love your enemies: do good to them that hate you: and pray for them that persecute and calumniate you:

When thy enemy shall fall, be not glad, and in his ruin let not thy heart rejoice:

And the men, whom we mentioned above, rose up and took the captives, and with the spoils clothed all them that were naked. And when they had clothed and shed them, and refreshed them with meat and drink, and anointed them because of their labour, and had taken care of them, they set such of them as could not walk, and were feeble, upon beasts, and brought them to Jericho the city of palm-trees to their brethren. And they returned to Samaria.

And he said: Thou shalt not kill them: for thou didst not take them with thy sword, or thy bow, that thou mayst kill them. But set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.

And one that looseth his garment in cold weather. As vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to a very evil heart. As a moth doth by a garment, and a worm by the wood: so the sadness of a man consumeth the heart.

For who, when he hath found his enemy, will let him go well away? But the Lord reward thee for this good turn, for what thou hast done to me this day.

God hath given him place for penance: and he abuseth it unto pride. But his eyes are upon his ways.

Say not: I will do to him as he hath done to me: I will render to every one according to his work.
