Chastise thy son, despair not: but to the killing of him set not thy soul.

He that spareth the rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him correcteth him betimes.

The rod and reproof give wisdom: but the child that is left to his own will bringeth his mother to shame.

Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, and the rod of correction shall drive it away.

Instruct thy son, and he shall refresh thee, and shall give delight to thy soul.

He that is impatient, shall suffer damage: and when he shall take away he shall add another thing.

If a man have a stubborn and unruly son, who will not hear the commandments of his father or mother, and being corrected, slighteth obedience:

As a city that lieth open and is not compassed with walls, so is a man that cannot refrain his own spirit in speaking.
