By patience a prince shall be appeased, and a soft tongue shall break hardness.


Hatred stirreth up strifes: and charity covereth all sins.


A passionate man stirreth up strifes: he that is patient appeaseth those that are stirred up.


A passionate man provoketh quarrels: and he that is easily stirred up to wrath, shall be more prone to sin.


He that boasteth, and puffeth up himself, stirreth up quarrels: but he that trusteth in the Lord, shall be healed.


And the men of Israel answered the men of Juda, and said: I have ten parts in the king more than thou; and David belongeth to me more than to thee. Why hast thou done me a wrong, and why was it not told me first, that I might bring back my king? And the men of Juda answered more harshly than the men of Israel.


They said to him: If thou wilt yield to this people to-day, and condescend to them, and grant their petition, and wilt speak gentle words to them, they will be thy servants always.


And they said to him: If thou please this people, and soothe them with kind words, they will be thy servants for ever.


I will not spare him, nor his mighty words, and framed to make supplication.


Corrupt men bring a city to ruin: but wise men turn away wrath.
