If thieves had gone in to thee, if robbers by night, how wouldst thou have held thy peace? would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers had come in to thee, would they not have left thee at the least a cluster?

If grape-gatherers had come to thee, would they not have left a bunch? If thieves in the night, they would have taken what was enough for them.

If thou make the vintage of thy vineyard, thou shalt not gather the clusters that remain: but they shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow.

And the fruit thereof that shall be left upon it shall be as one cluster of grapes, and as the shaking of the olive-tree, two or three berries in the top of a bough, or four or five upon the top of the tree, saith the Lord the God of Israel.

This is the glorious city that dwelt in security: that said in her heart: I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desert, a place for beasts to lie down in? every one that passeth by her, shall hiss, and wag his hand.

How is the hammer of the whole earth broken, and destroyed! How is Babylon turned into a desert among the nations!

For it shall be thus in the midst of the earth, in the midst of the people, as if a few olives, that remain should be shaken out of the olive-tree: or grapes, when the vintage is ended.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, who didst rise in the morning? How art thou fallen to the earth, that didst wound the nations?

The illustrious of Israel are slain upon thy mountains: How are the valiant fallen?

Standing afar off for fear of her torments, saying: Alas! alas! that great city Babylon, that mighty city: for in one hour is thy judgment come.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts: They shall gather the remains of Israel, as in a vine, even to one cluster: turn back thy hand, as a grape-gatherer into the basket.

And thy valiant men of the south shall be afraid, that man may be cut off from the mount of Esau.
