And the fruits thereof grow up for the kings, whom thou hast set over us for our sins; and they have dominion over our bodies, and over our beasts, according to their will; and we are in great tribulation.

May a people, which thou knowest not, eat the fruits of thy land, and all thy labours: and mayst thou always suffer oppression, and be crushed at all times.

Thou shalt serve thy enemy, whom the Lord will send upon thee, in hunger, and thirst, and nakedness, and in want of all things. And he shall put an iron yoke upon thy neck, till he consume thee.

We give you also to understand concerning all the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nathinites, and ministers of the house of this God, that you have no authority to impose toll or tribute, or custom upon them.

They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham, and we have never been slaves to any man: how sayest thou: you shall be free?

And I said to them: We, as you know, have redeemed according to our ability our brethren the Jews, that were sold to the Gentiles; and will you then sell your brethren, for us to redeem them? And they held their peace, and found not what to answer.

I also have commanded what must be done by those ancients of the Jews, that the house of God may be built: to wit, that of the king's chest, that is, of the tribute that is paid out of the country beyond the river, the charges be diligently given to those men, lest the work be hindered.

And now be it known to the king, that if this city be built up, and the walls thereof repaired, they will not pay tribute nor toll, nor yearly revenues; and this loss will fail upon the kings.

And will devour the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruits of thy land: until thou be destroyed. And will leave thee no wheat, nor wine, nor oil, nor herds of oxen, nor flocks of sheep: until he destroy thee,

Thou shalt plant a vineyard, and dig it, and shalt not drink the wine, nor gather any thing thereof: because it shall be wasted with worms.

I will set my face against you, and you shall fall down before your enemies: and shall be made subject to them that hate you. You shall flee when no man pursueth you.

We were dragged by the necks we were weary and no rest was given us.
