And said before his brethren, and the multitude of the Samaritans: What are the silly Jews doing? Will the Gentiles let them alone? Will they sacrifice and make an end in a day? Are they able to raise stones out of the heaps of the rubbish, which are burnt?

But the foolish things of the world hath God chosen, that he may confound the wise; and the weak things of the world hath God chosen, that he may confound the strong.

In that day shall the Lord protect the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and he that hath offended among them in that day shall be as David: and the house of David, as that of God, as an angel of the Lord in their sight.

O Lord, I have heard thy hearing, and was afraid. O Lord, thy work, in the midst of the years bring it to life: In the midst of the years thou shalt make it known: when thou art angry, thou wilt remember mercy.

They appointed also in that day men over the storehouses of the treasure, for the libations, and for the first-fruits, and for the tithes: that the rulers of the city might bring them in by them in honour of thanksgiving, for the priests and Levites. For Juda was joyful in the priests and Levites that assisted.

And Juda said: The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and the rubbish is very much; and we shall not be able to build the wall.

And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, and to keep the dedication, and to rejoice with thanksgiving, and with singing, and with cymbals and psalteries and harps.

But the wall was finished the five and twentieth day of the month of Elul, in two and fifty days.

Micheas of Morasthi was a prophet in the days of Ezechias king of Juda, and he spoke to all the people of Juda, saying: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Sion shall be ploughed like a field, and Jerusalem shall be a heap of stones, and the mountain of the house, the high places of woods.

Hast thou not seen what this people hath spoken, saying: The two families which the Lord had chosen are cast off: and they have despised my people, so that it is no more a nation before them?

For who hath despised little days? and they shall rejoice, and shall see the tin plummet in the hand of Zorobabel. These are the seven eyes of the Lord, that run to and fro through the whole earth.

Then the people of the land hindered the hands of the people of Juda, and troubled them in building.

For the sparrow hath found herself a house, and the turtle a nest for herself where she may lay her young ones: Thy altars, O Lord of hosts, my king and my God.
