But Sanaballat the Horonite, and Tobias the servant, the Ammonite, and Gossem the Arabian heard of it, and they scoffed at us, and despised us, and said: What is this thing that you do? Are you going to rebel against the king?

A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth over them the wheel.

The king, that sitteth on the throne of judgment, scattereth away all evil with his look.

I have watched, and am become as a sparrow all alone on the housetop.

And I chid them, and laid my curse upon them. And I beat some of them, and shaved off their hair, and made them swear by God that they would not give their daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for their sons, nor for themselves, saying:

And it came to pass, that when Sanaballat heard that we were building the wall he was angry. And being moved exceedingly he scoffed at the Jews;

And that whosoever would not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the ancients, all his substance should be taken away; and he should be cast out of the company of them that were returned from captivity.
