Nehemiah 13:19

And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem were at rest on the sabbath day, I spoke. And they shut the gates: and I commanded that they should not open them till after the sabbath. And I set some of my servants at the gates, that none should bring in burthens on the sabbath day.

It is a sabbath of rest, and you shell afflict your souls beginning on the ninth day of the month: from evening until evening you shall celebrate your sabbaths.

And I said to them: Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened till the sun be hot. And while they were yet standing by, the gates were shut, and barred: and I set watchmen of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one by their courses, and every mall over against his house.

And when you reap the corn of your land, you shall not cut it to the very ground: neither shall you gather the ears that remain. But you shall leave them for the poor and for the strangers. I am the Lord your God.

The Jews therefore said to him that was healed: It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for thee to take up thy bed.

So the merchants, and they that sold all kinds of wares, stayed without Jerusalem once or twice.
