And seeing a certain fig tree by the way side, he came to it, and found nothing on it but leaves only, and he saith to it: May no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And immediately the fig tree withered away.

They profess that they know God: but in their works they deny him; being abominable, and incredulous, and to every good work reprobate.

If any one abide not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch, and shall wither, and they shall gather him up, and cast him into the fire, and he burneth.

Having an appearance indeed of godliness, but denying the power thereof. Now these avoid.

And he fenced it in, and picked the stones out of it, and planted it with the choicest vines, and built a tower in the midst thereof, and set up a winepress therein. And he looked that it should bring forth grapes: and it brought forth wild grapes.

Gathering I will gather them together, saith the Lord. There is no grape on the vines, and there are no figs on the fig-tree, the leaf is fallen: and I have given them the things that are passed away.

And the disciples seeing it wondered, saying: How is it presently withered away?

And when they passed by in the morning they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
