And he said to them: Go and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I am consummated.

And the king was struck sad. Yet because of his oath, and because of them that were with him at table, he would not displease her:

For Herod feared John, knowing him to be a just and holy man: and kept him, and when he heard him, did many things: and he heard him willingly.

And king Herod heard, (for his name was made manifest,) and he said: John the Baptist is risen again from the dead, and therefore mighty works shew forth themselves in him.

And having a mind to put him to death, he feared the people: because they esteemed him as a prophet.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying: You and your wives have spoken with your mouth and fulfilled with your hands, saying: Let us perform our vows which we have made, to offer sacrifice to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink-offerings to her. You have fulfilled your vows and have performed them indeed.

But she being instructed before by her mother, said: Give me here in a dish the head of John the Baptist.

And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
