And going a little further, he fell upon his face, praying, and saying: My Father, if it be possible, let this chalice pass from me. Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

Again the second time, he went and prayed, saying: My Father, if this chalice may not pass away, but I must drink it, thy will be done.

And he saith: Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee: remove this chalice from me; but not what I will, but what thou wilt.

All my enemies whispered together against me: they devised evils to me.

Jesus therefore said to Peter: Put up thy sword into the scabbard. The chalice which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

And Jesus answering, said: You know not what you ask. Can you drink the chalice that I shall drink? They say to him: We can.

I cannot of myself do any thing. As I hear, so I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of him that sent me.

Because I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me.

Jesus saith to them: My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, that I may perfect his work.

Thus saith thy Sovereign, the Lord and thy God, who will fight for his people: Behold, I have taken out of thy hand the cup of dead sleep, the dregs of the cup of my indignation. Thou shalt not drink it again any more.

And leaving them, he went again: and he prayed the third time, saying the selfsame word.

For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Take the cup of wine of this fury at my hand: and thou shalt make all nations to drink thereof, unto which I shall send thee.

Arise, arise, stand up, O Jerusalem, which hast drunk at the hand of the Lord the cup of his wrath; thou hast drunk even to the bottom of the cup of dead sleep, and thou hast drunk even to the dregs.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to the little ones.

Yea, Father; for so hath it seemed good in thy sight.

And Jesus said: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do. But they, dividing his garments, cast lots.

And when we could not persuade him, we ceased, saying: The will of the Lord be done.
