He judged the cause of the poor and needy for his own good. Was it not therefore because he knew me, saith the Lord?

Do no violence to the poor, because he is poor: and do not oppress the needy in the gate:

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Fools despise wisdom and instruction.

They are bound, and have fallen; but we are risen, and are set upright. O Lord, save the king: and hear us in the day that we shall call upon thee.

But the former governors that had been before me were chargeable to the people; and took of them in bread, and wine, and in money every day forty sicles: and their officers also oppressed the people. But I did not so for the fear of God.

And I said to them: The thing you do is not good. Why walk you not in the fear of our God, that we be not exposed to the reproaches of the Gentiles our enemies?

Therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in truth and with your whole heart; for you have seen the great works which he hath done among you.

How he met thee: and slew the hindmost of the army, who sat down, being weary, when thou wast spent with hunger and labour, and he feared not God.

When thou shalt sell any thing to thy neighbour, or shalt buy of him; grieve not thy brother. But thou shalt buy of him according to the number of years from the jubilee.

Neither is there any thing which is not in my power, or that he hath not delivered to me, but thee, who art his wife: How then can I do this wicked thing, and sin against my God?

And he said to him: Lay not thy hand upon the boy, neither do thou any thing to him. Now I know that thou fearest God, and hast not spared thy only begotten son for my sake.

Abraham answered: I thought with myself, saying: Perhaps there is not the fear of God in this place; and they will kill me for the sake of my wife.

He that oppresseth the poor, upbraideth his Maker: but he that hath pity on the poor, honoureth him.

Thou shalt not calumniate thy neighbour, nor oppress him by violence. The wages of him that hath been hired by thee shall not abide with thee until the morning.

Take not usury of him nor more than thou gavest. Fear thy God, that thy brother may live with thee.

By mercy and truth iniquity is redeemed: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.

The Lord will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people and its princes. For you have devoured the vineyard: and the spoil of the poor is in your house.
