And this shall be to you an everlasting ordinance: The seventh month, the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and shall do no work, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you.

Why have we fasted: and thou hast not regarded? Have we humbled our souls: and thou hast not taken notice? Behold, in the day of your fast your own will is found: and you exact of all your debtors.

The tenth day also of this seventh month shall be holy and venerable unto you: and you shall afflict your souls. You shall do no servile work therein.

Is this such a fast as I have chosen: for a man to afflict his soul for a day? Is this it: To wind his head about like a circle and to spread sackcloth and ashes? Wilt thou call this a fast and a day acceptable to the Lord?

There the workers of iniquity are fallen, they are cast out, and could not stand.

The eighth day also shall be most solemn and most holy: and you shall offer holocausts to the Lord. For it is the day of assembly and congregation. You shall do no servile work therein.

And you shall call this day most solemn, and most holy. You shall do no servile work therein. It shall be an everlasting ordinance in all your dwellings and generations.

But on the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: thou shalt do no work on it, thou nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy beast, nor the stranger that is within thy gates.

For he that is entered into his rest, the same also hath rested from his works, as God did from his.

But if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy own will in my holy day and call the sabbath delightful and the holy of the Lord glorious and glorify him, while thou dost not thy own ways and thy own will is not found, to speak a word:

And now the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in their cities. And the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem.

And all Israel assembled themselves to king Solomon on the festival day in the month of Ethanim: the same is the seventh month.

And when much time was spent, and when sailing now was dangerous, because the fast was now past, Paul comforted them,

Keep you my sabbath: for it is holy unto you. He that shall profane it shall be put to death: he that shall do my work in it, his soul shall perish out of the midst of his people.

Six days shall you do work: in the seventh day is the sabbath, the rest holy to the Lord. Every one that shall do any work on this day shall die.

By a perpetual law for your generations, and in all your habitations: neither blood nor fat shall you eat at all.

And they gathered together to Masphath. And they drew water, and poured it out before the Lord; and they fasted on that day, and they said there: We have sinned against the Lord. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Masphath.

And I proclaimed there a fast by the river Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before the Lord our God, and might ask of him a right way for us, and for our children, and for all our substance.

And thou shalt sound the trumpet in the seventh month, the tenth day of the month, in the time of the expiation in all your land.
