Then Jonas went out of the city, and sat toward the east side of the city: and he made himself a booth there, and he sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would befall the city.

And when Elias heard it, he covered his face with his mantle, and coming forth stood in the entering-in of the cave, And, behold, a voice unto him, saying: What dost thou here, Elias? And he answered:

And when he was come thither, he abode in a cave. And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, and he said to him: What dost thou here, Elias?

For the iniquity of his covetousness I was angry: and I struck him. I hid my face from thee and was angry: and he went away wandering in his own heart.

And the mariners were afraid, and the men cried to their god: and they cast forth the wares that were in the ship, into the sea, to lighten it of them: and Jones went down into the inner part of the ship, and fell into a deep sleep.

Then I said: I will not make mention of him nor speak any more in his name. And there came in my heart as a burning fire, shut up in my bones: and I was wearied, not being able to bear it.

And the Lord said: Dost thou think thou hast reason to be angry?

And the Lord God prepared an ivy, and it came up over the head of Jonas, to be a shadow over his head, and to cover him (for he was fatigued): and Jonas was exceeding glad of the ivy.
