We all die, and like waters that return no more we fall down into the earth. Neither will God have a soul to perish, but recalleth; meaning that he that is cast off should not altogether perish.

For evils without number have surrounded me; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I was not able to see. They are multiplied above the hairs of my head: and my heart hath forsaken me.

I am brought to nothing: as a wind thou hast taken away my desire: and my prosperity hath passed away like a cloud.

And O that a man might so be judged with God, as the son of man is judged with his companion!

Before I go, and return no more: to a land that is dark and covered with the mist of death:

But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Shall I be able to bring him back any more? I shall go to him rather: but he shall not return to me.

I said: I shall not see the Lord God in the land of the living. I shall behold man no more, nor the inhabitant of rest.

Corn desireth clouds, and the clouds spread their light:

He is higher than heaven, and what wilt thou do? He is deeper than hell, and how wilt thou know?

For now I should have been asleep and still; and should have rest in my sleep:

If I wait hell is my house: and I have made my bed in darkness.

All that I have shall go down into the deepest pit: thinkest thou that there at least I shall have rest?

Let not the dead live, let not the giants rise again: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and best destroyed all their memory.
