They shall grope as in the dark, and not in the light: and he shall make them stagger like men that are drunk.

We have groped for the wall, and like the blind we have groped as if we had no eyes. We have stumbled at noonday as in darkness: we are in dark places as dead men.

And mayst thou grope at midday as the blind is wont to grope in the dark, and not make straight thy ways. And mayst thou at all times suffer wrong, and be oppressed with violence: and mayst thou have no one to deliver thee.

The way of the wicked is darksome: they know not where they fall.

And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God, that the sun shall go down at midday, and I will make the earth dark in the day of light:

He shall not depart out of darkness. The flame shall dry up his branches: and he shall be taken away by the breath of his own mouth.

He shall drive him out of light into darkness, and shall remove him out of the world.

All darkness is hid in his secret places. A fire that is not kindled shall devour him: he shall be afflicted when left in his tabernacle.

And didst thou think that thou shouldst not see darkness, and that thou shouldst not be covered with the violence of overflowing waters?

They have been rebellious to the light, they have not known his ways: neither have they returned by his paths.

From the wicked their light shall be taken away: and the high arm shall be broken.

And the Lord said to Moses: Stretch out they hand towards heaven: and may there be darkness upon the land of Egypt, so thick that it may be felt.

And Moses stretch forth his hand towards heaven: and there came horrible darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.
