Have pity on me, have pity on me, at least you my friends, because the hand of the Lord hath touched me.

And you have forgotten the consolation, which speaketh to you, as unto children, saying: My son, neglect not the discipline of the Lord; neither be thou wearied whilst thou art rebuked by him.

For think diligently upon him that endured such opposition from sinners against himself; that you be not wearied, fainting in your minds.

For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man is corrupted, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

Therefore, seeing we have this ministration, according as we have obtained mercy, we faint not;

If thou lose hope being weary in the day of distress, thy strength shall be diminished.

He that taketh away mercy from his friend forsaketh the fear of the Lord.

But put forth thy hand, and touch his bone and his flesh: and then thou shalt see that he will bless thee to thy face.

But stretch forth thy hand a little, and touch all that he hath; and see if he blesseth thee not to thy face.

Thy words have confirmed them that were staggering, and thou hast strengthened the trembling knees.

I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy. For thou best regarded my humility, thou hast saved my soul out of distresses.
