We looked for peace, and no good came: for a time of healing, and, behold, fear.

Hast thou utterly cast away Juda, or hath thy soul abhorred Sion? Why then hast thou struck us, so that there is no healing for us? We have looked for peace, and there is no good: and for the time of healing, and, behold, trouble.

For she is become weak unto good that dwelleth in bitterness: for evil is come down from the Lord into the gate of Jerusalem.

Who is there among you that feareth the Lord, that heareth the voice of his servant, that hath walked in darkness, and hath no light? Let him hope in the name of the Lord and lean upon his God.

Why is my sorrow become perpetual, and my wound desperate so as to refuse to be healed? It is become to me as the falsehood of deceitful waters that cannot be trusted.

And I said: I shall die in my nest, and as a palm-tree shall multiply my days.

For I have not perished because of the darkness that hangs over me: neither hath the mist covered my face.

He hath hedged in my path round about, and I cannot pass: and in my way he hath set darkness.

He shall drive him out of light into darkness, and shall remove him out of the world.

The light shall be dark in his tabernacle: and the lamp that is over him shall be put out.

Aleph. He hath led me and brought me into darkness, and not into light.

Therefore is judgment far from us and justice shall not overtake us. We looked for light, and behold darkness: brightness, and we have walked in the dark.
