And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom became dark, and they gnawed their tongues for pain:

And when neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small storm lay on us, all hope of our being saved was now taken away.

Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over the whole earth, until the ninth hour.

Woe to them that desire the day of the Lord: to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness, and not light.

A day of darkness, and of gloominess, a day of clouds and whirlwinds: a numerous and strong people as the morning spread upon the mountains: the like to it hath not been from the beginning, nor shall be after it even to the years of generation and generation.

And the Lord thy God doth always visit it: and his eyes are on it from the beginning of the year unto the end thereof.

Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said: A man-child is conceived.

Let darkness, and the shadow of death cover it: let a mist overspread it: and let it be wrapped up in bitterness.
