Because it shut not up the doors of the womb that bore me, nor took away evils from my eyes.

Who slew me not from the womb that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb an everlasting conception.

Remove anger from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh. For youth and pleasure are vain.

Now also my words are in bitterness, and the hand of my scourge is more grievous than my mourning.

My soul is weary of my life: I will let go my speech against myself. I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

But to Anna he gave one portion with sorrow, because he loved Anna. And the Lord had shut up her womb.

And the Lord seeing that he despised Lia, opened her womb, but her sister remained barren.

For the Lord had closed up every womb of the house of Abimelech, on account of Sara, Abraham's wife.

Let the stars be darkened with the mist thereof: let it expect light and not see it, nor the rising of the dawning of the day:

Why did I not die in the womb? Why did I not perish when I came out of the belly?
