That he might shew thee the secrets of wisdom, and that his law is manifold: and thou mightest understand that he exacteth much less of thee than thy iniquity deserveth.

And after all that is come upon us, for our most wicked deeds, and our great sin, seeing that thou our God hast saved us from our iniquity, and hast given us a deliverance as at this day,

Heth. The mercies of the Lord that we are not consumed: because his commiserations have not failed.

Which in other generations was not known to the sons of men, as it is now revealed to his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit:

That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.

Hast thou heard God's counsel, and shall his wisdom be inferior to thee?

Is it a great matter that God should comfort thee? But thy wicked words hinder this.

For thy iniquity hath taught thy mouth, and thou imitatest the tongue of blasphemers.

He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who hath resisted him, and hath had peace?

Secret things to the Lord our God: things that are manifest, to us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Thou sendest forth springs in the vales: between the midst of the hills the waters shall pass.

And he said to man: Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom: and to depart from evil, is understanding.

And I wish that God would speak with thee, and would open his lips to thee,

With him is wisdom and strength: he hath counsel and understanding.

And not for thy manifold wickedness, and thy infinite iniquities?

Now this is the thing in which thou art not justified. I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.
