For thou hast said: My word is pure, and I am clean in thy sight.
And shouldst know that I have done no wicked thing, whereas there is no man that can deliver out of thy hand.
And that this may be my comfort, that afflicting me with sorrow, he spare not: nor I contradict the words of the Holy One.
But sanctify the Lord Christ in your hearts, being ready always to satisfy every one that asketh you a reason of that hope which is in you.
Doth thy thought seem right to thee, that thou shouldst say: I am more just than God?
Who can make him clean that is conceived of unclean seed? Is it not thou who only art?
I have sinned. What shall I do to thee, O keeper of men? Why hast thou set me opposite to thee, and I am become burdensome to myself?
And I wish that God would speak with thee, and would open his lips to thee,
I will give you a good gift, forsake not my law.
