Therefore is our heart sorrowful: therefore are our eyes become dim.

We have heard the fame thereof, our hands grow feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, as a woman in labor.

Therefore have I said: Depart from me, I will weep bitterly. Labour not to comfort me, for the devastation of the daughter of my people.

I have heard and my bowels were troubled: my lips trembled at the voice. Let rottenness enter into my bones, and swarm under me. That I may rest in the day of tribulation: that I may go up to our people that are girded.

Put forth thy hand from on high, take me out, and deliver me from many waters: from the hand of strange children:

Who will give water to my head and a fountain of tears to my eyes, and I will weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people?

To the prophets: My heart is broken within me, all my bones tremble: I am become as a drunken man, and as a man full of wine, at the presence of the Lord and at the presence of his holy words.

My bowels, my bowels, are in pain, the senses of my heart are troubled within me. I will not hold my peace, for my soul hath heard the sound of the trumpet, the cry of battle.
