Let every man take heed of his neighbour, and let him not trust in any brother of his: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every friend will walk deceitfully.

But the heart of this people is become hard of belief and provoking: they are revolted and gone away.

And they said: Come, and let us invent devices against Jeremias, for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us give no heed to all his words.

For true and just are his judgments, who hath judged the great harlot which corrupted the earth with her fornication, and hath revenged the blood of his servants, at her hands.

And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest render reward to thy servants the prophets and the saints, and to them that fear thy name, little and great, and shouldest destroy them who have corrupted the earth.

For I heard the reproaches of many, and terror on every side: Persecute him, and, let us persecute him: from all the men that were my familiars and continued at my side: if by any means he may be deceived and we may prevail against him and be revenged on him.

Call them reprobate silver, for the Lord hath rejected them.

Return as you had deeply revolted, O children of Israel.

Deal favourably, O Lord, in thy good will with Sion; that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.

Thou shalt not be a detractor nor a whisperer among the people. Thou shalt not stand against the blood of thy neighbour. I am the Lord.

Thy uncleanness is execrable: because I desired to cleanse thee, and thou art not cleansed from thy filthiness. Neither shalt thou be cleansed, before I cause my indignation to rest in thee.

But if, after the stones be taken out, and the dust scraped off, and it be plastered with other earth,

A psalm of David. Lord, who shall dwell in thy tabernacle? or who shall rest in thy holy hill?

Lying lips hide hatred: he that uttereth reproach is foolish.

And thou shalt say to them: This is a nation which hath not hearkened to the voice of the Lord their God nor received instruction. Faith is lost and is taken away out of their mouth.

And they have bent their tongue, as a bow, for lies and not for truth: they have strengthened themselves upon the earth: for they have proceeded from evil to evil, and me they have not known, saith the Lord.

And thou shalt speak my words to them, if perhaps they will hear and forbear: for they provoke me to anger.
