And king Sedecias sent Juchal the son of Selemias and Sophonias the son of Maasias the priest to Jeremias the prophet, saying: Pray to the Lord our God for us.

And I brought them into the house of the Lord, to the treasure house of the sons of Hanan the son of Jegedelias, the man of God, which was by the treasure house of the princes, above the treasure of Maasias the son of Sellum, who was keeper of the entry.

Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Because thou hast sent letters in thy name to all the people that are in Jerusalem and to Sophonias the son of Maasias the priest and to all the priests, saying:

The word that came to Jeremias from the Lord, when king Sedecias sent unto him Phassur, the son of Melchias, and Sophonias, the son of Maasias the priest, saying:

Azarias begot Saraias, and Saraias begot Josedec.

But Nabuzardan the general carried away captives some of the poor people and of the rest of the common sort who remained in the city and of the fugitives that were fled over to the king of Babylon and the rest of the multitude.

So Sophonias the priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremias the prophet.

Now after these things in the reign of Artaxerxes, king of the Persians, Esdras the son of Saraias, the son of Azarias, the son of Helcias,

And in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, the same is the nineteenth year of Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon, came Nabuzardan the general of the army, who stood before the king of Babylon in Jerusalem.

Surely his salvation is near to them that fear him: that glory may dwell in our land.

And the king commanded Helcias the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the doorkeepers, to cast out of the temple of the Lord all the vessels that had been made for Baal, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven. And he burnt them without Jerusalem in the valley of Cedron: and he carried the ashes of them to Bethel.

And Sedecias the king of Juda and his princes I will give into the hands of their enemies and into the hands of them that seek their lives and into the hands of the armies of the king of Babylon which are gone from you.

Phe. The face of the Lord hath divided them, he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, neither had they pity on the ancient.

Therefore thus saith the Lord God: Your slain, whom you have laid in the midst thereof, they are the flesh, and this is the caldron: and I will bring you forth out of the midst thereof.

Take the fattest of the flock and lay together piles of bones under it: the seething thereof is boiling hot and the bones thereof are thoroughly sodden in the midst of it.

Thus saith the Lord God: Behold I myself come upon the shepherds, I will require my hock at their hand, and I will cause them to cease from feeding the flock any more, neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more: and I will deliver my flock from their mouth, and it shall no more be meat for them.

For thus saith the Lord: Behold, I will deliver thee up to fear, thee and all thy friends. And they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thy eyes shall see it. And I will give all Juda into the hand of the king of Babylonand he shall carry them away to Babylon and he shall strike them with the sword.
