Therefore, because of you, Sion shall be ploughed as a field, and Jerusalem shall be as a heap of stones, and the mountain of the temple as the high places of the forests.
Zain. The Lord hath cast off his altar, he hath cursed his sanctuary: he hath delivered the walls of the towers thereof into the hand of the enemy. They have made a noise in the house of the Lord, as in the day of a solemn feast.
And he answering, said to them: Do you see all these things? Amen I say to you there shall not be left here a stone upon a stone that shall not be destroyed.
Speak to the house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the glory of your realm and the thing that your eyes desire, and for which your soul feareth: your sons, and your daughters, whom you have left, shall fall by the sword.
And all thy wives and thy children shall be brought out to the Chaldeans. And thou shalt not escape their hands, but thou shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and he shall burn this city with fire.
Behold, I will command, saith the Lord, and I will bring them again to this city: and they shall fight against it and take it and burn it with fire. And I will make the cities of Juda a desolation, without an inhabitant.
I will do to this house, in which my name is called upon, and in which you trust, and to the places which I have given you and your fathers, as I did to Silo.
And this house shall be made an example of. Every one that shall pass by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss, and say: Why hath the Lord done thus to this land, and to this house?
And the houses of Jerusalem and the houses of Juda shall be unclean as the place of Topheth: all the houses upon whose roots they have sacrificed to all the host of heaven and have poured out drink-offerings to strange gods.
For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith the Lord. It shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.
But I will visit upon you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the Lord: and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof: and it shall devour all things round about it.
And the Chaldeans that fight against this city shall come and set it on fire and burn it, with the houses upon whose roofs they offered sacrifice to Baal and poured out drink-offerings to strange gods, to provoke me to wrath.
He. The Lord is become as an enemy: he hath cast down Israel headlong, he hath overthrown all the walls thereof: he hath destroyed his strongholds, and hath multiplied in the daughter of Juda the afflicted, both men and women.
Vau. And he hath destroyed his tent as a garden, he hath thrown down his tabernacle. The Lord hath caused feasts and sabbaths to be forgotten in Sion and hath delivered up king and priest to reproach and to the indignation of his wrath.
And they shall burn thy houses with fire and shall execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and thou shalt cease from fornication and shalt give no hire any more.
Heth. The Lord hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Sion: he hath stretched out his line and hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying: and the bulwark hath mourned, and the wall hath been destroyed together.
