The word that came to Jeremias, concerning all the Jews that dwelt in the land of Egypt, dwelling in Magdal and in Taphnis and in Memphis and in the land of Phatures, saying:

The children also of Memphis and of Taphnes have deflowered thee, even to the crown of the head.

Declare ye to Egypt and publish it in Magdal, and let it be known in Memphis and in Taphnis. Say ye: Stand up, and prepare thyself: for the sword shall devour all round about thee.

For thy princes were in Tanis, and thy messengers came even to Hanes.

And in Taphnis the day shall be darkened, when I shall break there the sceptres of Egypt, and the pride of her power shall cease in her: a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall be led into captivity.

And when he spoke these things, he answered him: Art thou the king's counsellor? Be quiet, lest I kill thee. And the prophet departing said: I know that God is minded to kill thee, because thou hast done this evil, and moreover hast not hearkened to my counsel.

Who walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth: hoping for help in the strength of Pharao, and trusting in the shadow of Egypt.

And Jeremias said to all the people and to all the women: Hear ye the word of the Lord, all Juda, you that dwell in the land of Egypt.

And all the people both little and great, and the captains of the soldiers, rising up went to Egypt, fearing the Chaldees.

And they departed and sat as sojourners in Chamaam, which is near Bethlehem, in order to go forward and enter into Egypt,

And now I have declared it to you this day: and you have not obeyed the voice of the Lord your God with regard to all the things for which he hath sent me to you.
