And king Sedecias sent and took Jeremias the prophet to him to the third gate that was in the house of the Lord. And the king said to Jeremias: I will ask thee a thing. Hide nothing from me.

And Jeremias said to king Sedecias: In what way have I offended against thee or thy servants or thy people, that thou hast cast me into prison?

But the king said to him: I adjure thee again and again, that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the name of the Lord.

For you have deceived your own souls: for you sent me to the Lord our God, saying: Pray for us to the Lord our God, and according to all that the Lord our God shall say to thee, so declare unto us, and we will do it.

And the king answering said to the woman: Hide not from me the thing that I ask thee. And the woman said to him: Speak, my lord the king.
