Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Because thou hast sent letters in thy name to all the people that are in Jerusalem and to Sophonias the son of Maasias the priest and to all the priests, saying:

And the general took Saraias the chief priest and Sophonias the second priest and the three keepers of the entry.

And king Sedecias sent Juchal the son of Selemias and Sophonias the son of Maasias the priest to Jeremias the prophet, saying: Pray to the Lord our God for us.

So Sophonias the priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremias the prophet.

And asked of him letters to Damascus, to the synagogues: that if he found any men and women of this way, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

And they praised him also before me, and they related my words to him. And Tobias sent letters to put me in fear.

Moreover in those days many letters were sent by the principal men of the Jews to Tobias, and from Tobias there came letters to them.
